this is one that i have been meaning to write about since the first day, and i am glad that i waited. where i am getting to is the driving habits of this country. i want everyone to read what i am about to write then close their eyes and really imagine the words i just typed. think about how much we complain about the drivers in the states, i know i do about the traffic patterns in fort myers due to the many different driving cultures that converge in this area every winter; midwestern, new england, city, country, all forged into one creative chaos. lets take it a bit further, try to think of what it would be like if we took four million 15 and a half year old who have just received their permits to drive, place them in a confined area that we will call santo domingo, relieve the parents of their duties and allow these kids to learn on their own, remove all traffic laws, signs, and lights and add pedestrians, potholes, and stray dogs to dodge. and one more thing, no lanes (there are traffic lanes here but they do not serve a purpose.) and i almost forgot, these people honk at anything and everything that does and does not move, and just because, it is like the movie cars with turrets syndrome.
i also wanted to mention my final training session today in santiago, dr. the drive was amazing, the country is full of mountains, green trees of all sorts, and blue skies, it was one of the nicest drives that i have been on in any country that i have visited. when we finally arrived, i was pleased to see a field with a reasonable amount of grass. though it was not nice as far as the states go, it was a bit easier to play on.
afterwards, carlos and claudio called me over before we parted ways and wanted to tell me their final thoughts. to not much surprise, i did not make river plate which is okay, if i were younger or had some sort of professional playing experience things may have been different. i did however receive a good deal of feedback based on a number of other things. they will be in contact with me over the next few days about professional leagues in argentina, the money involved and so forth. they told me it was up to me on the decision and if my desire to play will find it worth to play there or not. they also added that the pay can range form not much at all to an amount that will serve as comfortable just depending on the team and the sponsorship which is the case in europe as well. when i played in austria, the team i played on did not very much receive revenue from sponsors which in turn enabled them from paying anything worth a damn.
i am going to see what comes up the next few weeks and weigh everything. it could be a great opportunity to play futbol and live in another country which is something i have always wanted to do. time will tell what is next and the situations that are in front of me along with the decisions that i make. who knows, i may need to start learning spanish soon.
