i know that there are not too many people who follow or even read much of what i try to document through this site, but this is something that i hope reaches the masses a bit more for many reasons. it is something that i have thought about for awhile, only lacking the initial steps that lead toward an end result. it could be due to many things; lack of motivation, lack of creativity, lack of means, patience, or desire. no, i believe the reason might have stemmed from a fear of reopening a wound that bleeds a longing to explore, search, or discover something new while encompassing freedom and a certain liberation. it is a feeling that only travelers can understand (and yes, if you have slept in a hostel, a train station restroom stall, or random mattresses throughout the world, you are a traveler. if you have desperately ran to catch a moving train, entered a city with no idea where they are or what the exact date is, or lucked out due to a frenchman yelling "bus, bus, that is your bus" while making your way to barcelona, you are a traveler. and if you have officially mastered the art of pasta, stir-fry, and grocery shopping for lunch, then yes, you are a traveler)... while creating the video, i found an ease during it all, a quite closure that apparently comes through throwing yourself at something that leaves you burning. i am not saying that i am over travel or okay with the time that i have spent away experiencing new things because i still have an edge to my life that surrounds this aspect. i am mearly saying that i have come to terms with the end of a trip and realized that there are many more to come in the near future.
with that being said, i want to get to the point of all this, i want to thank everyone who helped and shared in the experience. family, friends, aha, christine, daniela, frauke, gerhard, morten, and of course, the students who took part in the trip during the spring quarter/semester of '09. it may not be the most creative or extensive of videos, and there are parts that did not turn out the way i had planned, ie. the opening slide. but there was the thought, the recollection, and of course a piece of music which could not be more viennese; johann strauss II's an der schönen blauen donau (on the beautiful blue danube if you had forgotten all german we learned last year)
even though this is a video through my eyes, it is really for all of you. i hope it sparks some memories and lights a fire to get out there and make another trip your own.

ReplyDeleteWow, Aaron...That was really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts, and for making such a memorable video. I have to say, it triggered that feeling again, and opened the floodgates. That desire to travel...Ah! :) It's a beautiful thing.
Thanks!
