my visitors

this past weekend i was able to reconnect with a few unexpected faces in south beach, miami. so while you up north were fighting the cold and dodging the snow storms, i was once again sporting shorts, a tee, sunglasses, and sunscreen all while enjoying great latin and south american food. my good childhood friend stef came down from kentucky with two work friends to celebrate a birthday and she asked me to swing by for the weekend. after two nights of the miami party scene (it takes it's toll even when you are not actually "partying" to the south beach standard) and two days of cuban coffee, pastries, cuisine, and great art deco architecture i was ready to call it quits and get back to where i call home in ft myers.
the other surprise was seeing my hungarian friend ivett. originally from miskolc, a city in the northeast of hungary, she lives in budapest where she works as an anthropologist, and is currently on a six month work visa at florida state university in tallahassee which ends in about a week. i first met ivett in a hostel last january on a trip to paris with my college/swedish friend michael. since then, we have been able to reconnect a few times in vienna for a cafe or beer, there is always something exciting about seeing a friendly face so far from either's roots. i spent a few hours catching up on saturday and ended up meeting with her again that sunday.
it was great seeing both my friends again and i cannot wait for my next visitor near the end of march when corrinne comes to visit from portland via haiti.
